| | Long overdue photos from my Byron Bay holiday with the BFF.
Best. Trip. Ever.
*** Len says it best. :)
19-24 March 2008
Backtrack to last September when Den and I decided that we will enjoy some major bff bonding at Byron Bay for the annual Bluesfest. Bought a 5-day pass and booked our flights and crossed our fingers for what's to come in the line up.
December we found out that Jason Mraz is actually going so we were doubly pleased! The trip is definitely going to be worth it!
Cannot and do not have the time to make kwento about what we did the whole time but pretty much laughed and ate...and in my case, shopped, our Bluesfest holiday! Let's not get into specifics like Den's katakawan and dying urge to eat every half an hour and my constant need for unnecessary things like cute looking anklets that I have fashioned into a necklace or things like headwraps and ten dollar shoes! But anyway we truly had the best time in the world and I can't imagine doing this without my bestbud.
We met interesting characters like "Gina" "Gerald" "Gerald/Luke" Shelby, "Giorgio" Steve, San Lazaro band members, Rachael, Andrina etc etc...
Not to mention Den and I have amassed a collection of private jokes and one-liners only she and I will ever get. ah, the insanities of more than a decade of friendship.
Anyway, the Bluesfest itself was amazing! 5 days of music from 12 to 12 was just what the doctor prescribed after being sick for almost a week.
I have discovered new music that I wouldn't normally bother with like this 11-piece Japanese band called GOCOO + Goro, eMDee who is a complete genius on the didgeridoo, Latin band San Lazaro, Mexican dynamic duo on acoustic guitars, Rodrigo y Gabriela and funk god Maceo Parker. Plus there were my usual favourites like Jason Mraz and The John Butler Trio.
When not eating or shopping we were out frolicking on the beach. The weather was sunny the whole time we didn't even get a chance to use our wellies! But no complaints, there's always next year.
Prepare to exceed your saturation point for our faces! |
| | And yet more photos of Paolo Nutini. These ones are from his set at the Blues Festival in Byron Bay.
He's possibly my greatest musical discovery of 2006 and is one very talented kid. So yeah, do yourself a favour and get your hands on his music if you haven't already. :)

Yep, I saw them all there. :) There were so many other acts to see but I suppose one can only do so much. I did enjoy the gigs that I was able to watch though. I had been wanting to go to this festival for three years now and having waited this long, I'm quite happy that it didn't disappoint. I must admit that I was a tad disheartened when DMB, Rodrigo y Gabriela and Feist pulled out. Go Gol Bordello even cancelled at the last minute. But the gains outweighed the losses and a great time was had by all. I'm still on a bluesfest high and heaps of thoughts are buzzing through my head. There were far too many notable highlights - a long overdue catchup with Mich, an interesting encounter with some Brazilians, wading through mud at the festival grounds, Paolo Nutini remembering me, Jack Johnson's surprise gig, Ozomatli bringing the batucada to the crowd, the best breakfast after mass on Easter Sunday, John Butler's flawless performance, finding Langos where I least expected them to be, eating chips for the first time in almost 2 months, shower stalls in the hostel, socialising with other backpackers, constant rain in Byron Bay, etc. etc.
I think I'm going again next year. Keen? |
